Walk New Mexico

A Here to There, LLC Event

I walked from Las Cruces to Santa Fe in April 2008. It took me 19 days to cover the 309 miles. I suffered the winds (up to 70 mph), heat, cold (18 degrees one morning), sun, snow, wind, sand, wind, and more wind. Matt drove the support vehicle, watched for my safety, and ran camp. Together (me on foot and he in the truck) we crossed the Jornada del Muerto. After crossing Hwy. 380 we continued north on a little-used dirt county road. The last few days of my walk were on Hwy. 14, also known as the Turquoise Trail.

Musing on the adventure, there are times I wonder, "How on earth did I do it?" and other times when it seems very long ago. I am writing the story and hope to have it finished before too long. I'll keep you posted as to my progress with it.

In the meantime, there are a few photos on the next page. They'll give you an idea of what it's like "out there." It was an amazing walk across an incredibly harsh and lovely land. Best, susan

Special thanks goes to Keen Footwear - they've sponsored me with donation of shoes and sandals for me, shoes for Matt, several tees, a couple of caps (hats), and a daypack.  Here's a link to their site: http://www.keenfootwear.com/

This event is brought to you by Here to There, LLC, which organizes and promotes walks, treks and expeditions of varying lengths in beautiful places.
